FIFA has
set the 12 places that will receive the World Cup fan fests, events in
the host cities with broadcasting of all matches of the World Cup on big
screens outdoors. The list was released early on this Friday (April
13).
According to the marketing director
of the entity, Thierry Weil, "the fan fest brings to FIFA and LOC a
platform to strengthen the experience of fans at the World Cup,
attracting to the event millions of fans outside the stadiums."
On FIFA's official website, Ronaldo, the former
soccer star and current board member of the Local Organizing Committee
(LOC), also commented on the definition.
"As Brazilians, we always had the habit of rooting
for our team at big popular festivals throughout the country, where
people from all social classes meet. So, I am sure it will be the best fan fest of all time," he said.
The official list ends with uncertainties in some
cities, as in Cuiabá, where the Acrimat Exhibition Park had been
replaced by an event center in the district Morada do Ouro earlier this
year. Then, the World Cup Secretary of Mato Grosso went back and set the
Exhibition Park for the FIFA’s event.
In São Paulo, Vale do Anhangabaú, downtownin, won the contest
against the Ibirapuera Park, in the south area, and the Anhembi
Sambadrome, in the north area, where the samba schools parade is
performed during Carnival. In Rio de Janeiro, the fame of the Copacabana
beach prevailed, a place already accustomed to big events such as New
Year's Eve party.
In addition to viewing the World Cup games for free, the fan fests will also have musical concerts and other cultural shows.
